Maria (Julie Andrews) is a young and lively nun who likes to sing loudly in nature, so she often forgets the rules in the monastery. The abbot believed that Maria did not belong to a strict monastery. After consulting with the mothers, the dean decided to arrange for Maria to become a governess with a Colonel named Trapp (Christopher Plummer). The colonel's wife died for many years, leaving behind seven children, and he demanded strict discipline of the children. He told Maria that none of the tutors in his family could last long because of the children's pranks. Maria was indeed subjected to practical jokes, but the kind teacher did not tell their father. Instead, she took care of the child like a mother and quickly became one with the child. The colonel gradually changed his attitude towards the children under Maria's guidance. The Colonel and Maria developed feelings. After their marriage, they returned to Austria, which had been occupied by the Nazis.
